Jim has also arbitrated and mediated dozens of complex domestic and international commercial disputes. In just the last several years, Jim has served as the sole arbiter or arbitration panel chair in dozens of major arbitrations including complex international commercial cases. His arbitration work has included shareholder rights, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, royalties and commissions, oil and gas leases, operating agreements, distributorship agreements, real estate development agreements and partnership disputes. Jim also serves as a court-appointed mediator and is often selected by the AAA and counsel for private litigants on complex, controversial cases of all types.

During the Clinton administration, Jim served as Special Advisor to the President and Secretary of State for economic initiatives in Northern Ireland and the bounties of the Republic of Ireland. He was responsible for various cross-community projects in support of peace and reconciliation, which contributed to the Good Friday Agreement, bringing political and social stability to the north of Ireland. For his service “to the people of Northern Ireland and the cause of peace,” the University of Ulster awarded Jim an honorary doctorate (LL.D). Jim has served as Ireland’s Honorary Consul in Denver since 2009.

Jim is available for arbitrations, mediations, public policy facilitations, complex case evaluations, mock trials, and appellate argument preparation.
